WILLIAM DUBIN

New Works

February 25, 2022 through May 26, 2022

Our next featured exhibition will be New Works by William Dubin. This comes close on the heels of the publication of Dilexi: Gallery and Beyond, by Laura Whitcomb. This book covers the years, in the 1960s, that the Dilexi Gallery was in operation, and includes the artists that exhibited there. William Dubin is prominently featured, and was doing Biomorphic sculptures in exotic hardwoods at the time.

Dubin's current work is comprised of watercolors inspired by Sweetwater Wetlands Park in Tucson, Arizona. Although they refer to an actual, natural environment, they also exhibit some of the same Surrealist and abstract tendencies one could find in the early Biomorphic works.

Biomorphic Sculpture

February 25, 2022 through May 26, 2022

Showing concurrently with the new watercolors is an exhibition of photographs of the sculptures that William Dubin exhibited at Dilexi Gallery in San Francisco during the mid-1960s. The sculptures were photographed by Steve Sokol at the time of their exhibition. Most, if not all, all of these fragile sculptures were damaged during shipping during those years, consequently the photographs provide the only record that they existed.

This exhibition and that of Dubin's current work celebrate the publication of Dilexi: Gallery and Beyond, by Laura Whitcomb.
